Frequently Asked Questions
What is LAMDA?
LAMDA stands for the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. It is one of the most prestigious drama schools in the world and it now offers its own examinations in drama. What's more, they're so highly respected that UCAS even accredits the exams with points to help when you apply to university.
What is LAMDA tuition like?
Really good fun! It involves learning a number of poems, monologues (solo drama pieces) or duologues (duet-style drama pieces) that you prepare in advance with your tutor and then perform in front of an examiner. The examiner may ask you some questions about the pieces. The exams are great if you enjoy acting, public speaking or just learning a new skill!
How do I start LAMDA tuition?
You should speak to your drama teacher in school to find out if LAMDA qualifications are offered by your school; if not, contact us and we’ll have a chat! We'll send you a registration form to fill in, which gives us contact details and any other important information. If you want to stop lessons, we only require a half-term's notice.
Does my school offer LAMDA?
We currently operate in a number of schools in South-East Wales and the Border Counties. To find out if your school is one of them, ask your drama teacher.
How do I enter for an exam?
If you are one of our students, you can enter for an exam through our new Online Entry System – providing you have the permission of your parent or guardian (they must do it if you are under 18). You simply fill in the online form and wait for us to contact you to confirm your place.
How do I know when I am ready for an exam?
Your LAMDA tutor will advise you of this.
How much does an exam cost?
A list of the exams fees is available here.
I want to take LAMDA lessons outside of school. Is this possible?
Of course! We will be happy to recommend a private tutor to you. Just contact us and ask!
